Community School Parks Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Community School Park?

A Community School Park is a shared space on a school campus that welcomes community members to enjoy recreation and play during non-school hours—completely free of charge. These parks are created through a collaboration between the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP) and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), with a shared goal of bringing more safe, accessible outdoor spaces to all communities.

Who Supports Community School Parks?

The Community School Parks program is supported by the LAUSD Board of Education, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass. This program is provided in collaboration with Los Angeles City Councilmembers and LAUSD Board members who support community school parks in their district.

What are the hours of operation of the Community School Parks program?

The Community School Parks Program operates each weekend, with the exception of major holiday weekends and winter break.
